The lottery is best played with a strategy. It’s like what you do when you play games; you do it with a strategy.  And that’s what fun is all about.

How the probability change when you buy many lines

For illustration, we will use the 6/49 lotto system with 13,983,816 possible combinations to choose from.

You buy one ticket, you have 1 in 13,983,816 chances.  So buy another ticket with a different combination and you have 2 in 13,983,816 chances.  And so on.

You buy all the possible number combinations and you are guaranteed to win the jackpot.  In probability theory, that is a measurement of 1 which means “certainty.”

More tickets mean more chances of winning

That’s technically true.  Buying more lotto tickets does improve your chances of winning the jackpot.

But …

To be honest with you, we get two problems here:

  1. The increase in chance is too little to be excited about. The likelihood of hitting the jackpot is still incredibly low.
  2. From a financial perspective, buying more lines is likely a difficult one to do.  Pushing your chances further will eventually result in big losses in the long run.

As you can see, winning the lottery is not that easy even if you buy many tickets with different combinations.

The Solution

Now, it is where planning is so crucial for you as a lottery player. Even with a mathematical strategy winning is still so hard to achieve.  For one thing, playing the lottery with more lines is not cheap.

So here’s the solution I recommend:

  • Stop playing every draw.  If you just play every draw with one line, you’re not going to make it.  If you are lucky, then you may hit it.  But from a mathematical perspective, it’s likely that the winner is going to be “not you.”
  • Determine how many lines you can afford to play.  If you can afford to play 10 lines, then that’s it.  If you can afford to play 100 lines, then be it.  Be consistent.
  • Save money until you reach the required amount to play your numbers.  Let’s say you receive your salary every week, and you plan to play 10 lines, then it’s going to take you 10 weeks before you can play.  If you plan to play 100 lines, then it’s going to take you 100 weeks to save money.

I know. It takes time in between play.  But that’s better “mathematically” than playing 1 line every draw for 20 years.

Alternatively, you can join a syndicate so you can cover as many lines as possible.  But that’s another topic we will talk about in a different article.

Play More Lines Using Worthy Combinations

Here’s a scenario. You save as much money as you can. You even did a part-time gig just to have more money to afford more tickets.

Do you just randomly choose numbers on the playslip? Will you just use the numbers from your daily horoscope? Should you refer to the hot and cold numbers from lotto statistics?

The method of playing rests on your hand. However, if you want to make the most out of your lotto spending, decide smartly and play responsibly.

Regardless if you play solo or with a syndicate, you must ensure that the combinations you use have the best ratio of success to failure.

In lottery games, expect to have more instances of losing. Knowing the ratio will help you choose combinations with fewer ways of losing and more ways of winning.

Comparing the number of times a combination’s pattern could match the winning combination with the number of times it won’t. This is the ratio of success to failure.
